The Mediterranean Taste Awards

Our Concept

The idea of the Mediterranean Taste Awards is based upon a simple and clear vision, which is to spread the benefits and merits of the Mediterranean diet, through the discovery and promotion of the most innovative, brilliant, and unique in taste food creations.

In our organization, we are strong proponents of the idea that Mediterranean Food and Beverages have No Boundaries and our mission is to do our best to find those producers who passionately create unique in taste edible products with top quality ingredients and present them to the food community via a transparent and trusted evaluation process. 

The Journey

The Mediterranean Taste Awards with the participation of 1250+ food & beverages brands and 760 awarded brands, in the last 12 months (June 2020 – June 2021), continue with confidence and optimism to the fourth Mediterranean Taste Awards 2022. The third year of the competition brings significant changes and additions with regards to the structure of the awards by adding distinct Food Product Award Categories where food producers can choose to compete and also we have added New Geographical Locations and  New Award Categories.

Why Mediterranean Taste Awards

With the participation in Mediterranean Taste Awards 2022, producers get the unique opportunity to enhance the recognition, visibility, and promotion of the food & beverage brands. In addition, the producers will have the chance  to differentiate their brand from its competitors and increase the potential of reaching new customers in different geographical locations and also further enhance their brands reputation in the areas where already operate.

The food & beverage brands will be:

  • Evaluated by top class food scientists and experts in the food – beverage  and gastronomy industry
  • The awarded brands will be promoted directly to our 5000 European based trade-buyers and food merchants
  • The awarded food & beverage brands will be listed on the  medtasteawards.com with the full description and award characteristics of each awarded brand
  • The winners will also get promotion through the MTA 2022 social media marketing camping including its monthly newsletter reaching thousands of food industry participants as well as individual customers.

Marketing and Promotion Activities

In Mediterranean Taste Awards, we focus first on meeting the needs of the food producers and business partners.  We are committed of constantly expanding the marketing presence of the Mediterranean Taste Awards Brand to the geographical locations we target to expand our activities, helping this way the laborious effort of the producers to promote their awarded brands. 

For that reason, we are focused on investing in new technologies and to further enhance our relationships with media and communication partners in order to strengthen our position as a leading, specialized food media services organization. 

The Assesment Model Sensory Analysis Process

The Assessment Model

The assessment process of the competing brands for the Mediterranean  Taste Awards 2022 will be based on a Hybrid structure, which means that  all the food samples will be evaluated both in-house and remotely by our chefs and other highly skilled professionals with profound experience in the food industry. 

The in- house evaluation will be held in Greece, London and Berlin in small groups which will be coordinated by the panel  leader and the final scoring will be collected and organized  via our proprietary,  state of the art evaluation and scoring system platform.

If needed, we can induct to our team an assessment member (jury) which can participate in the evaluation process entirely remotely.

Preparation & Presentation Method

The food and beverage samples will be presented to the judges for blind tasting unbranded

Judging Process & Scoring Method

  • In order to ensure that the evaluation methodology of the food and beverage samples is credible, transparent and unbiased, we have introduced a sensory  evaluation. The Sensory evaluation was one of the earliest methods of quality control and it is still widely used in the industry.
  • A scientific discipline used to evoke, measure, analyse and interpret reactions to those characteristics of foods and materials as they are perceived by the senses of sight, smell, taste, touch and hearing.
  • The food products are presented to the judges for blind tasting unbranded

  • We store and prepare the olive oil samples according meeting the heist hygiene standards depending of the nature of the food product

  • We have introduced two more different levels of blind assessment, apart from the regular tasting. Cross tasting of samples in a second group of judges and repetition of the same sample from the same group of judges that performed the first tasting

  • The Juries have zero prior knowledge of the product’s brand name and/or other sensitive information and the scoring method is been made securely using our online proprietary rating platform where each jury send its own score for each assessed product

  • You can add a product and/or category after you have made the registration until February 15, 2022, for the first edition of the competition (February 26-28, 2021) and until June 8, 2022, for the second edition of the competition June 15 – 17, 2022)

      • Participants should be registered for the competition by February 15, 2022, for the first edition of the competition (February 26-28, 2021) and until June 8, 2022, for the second edition of the competition (June  15- 17, 2022)
      • Registrations will not be accepted after the deadline has been reached.
  • After the registration & the payment are completed, we will send the relevant documents, shipping details, and invoices.  

    Having first completed the registration and payment, then our team will provide the relevant documents and the Shipping Label Form.

    All the olive oil samples must be sent by February 20, 2022

    In case that the food & beverage products  sample has not been sent on time the product will be eligible for judging

  • For each competition category, you must submit two (2) samples of each product. The samples must be submitted on the exact same retail packagingPlease note that for the sensory analysis, the food & beverage samples are blind-tasted by the judges.

  • The participants must ensure that all the food & beverage samples will be send in safe and suitable packaging. In case of a damaged item, the participant must resend the samples strictly within the deadlines.

  • The first and second edition of the competition will be held simultaneously in London on February 26-28, 2022, and June 15-17, 2022 with the participation of chefs and food specialists from London and from parts of the world where we feel they fit with the Med Taste Awards concept.

    The London buyers Choice Award, by MTA Awards, will be held only in the second period of the competition and only in London on June 15 – 17, 2022

    Please note that in case of amendments on the scheduled dates of the competition they will be communicated to the participants directly via an email

  • What is the fee for registering for the competition? 

    The entry fees to the competition are the following:

    • Standard Price: € 90 (From September 1 to February 20, 2022) per brand per award category

    Second Period | June 15 -17, 2022

    • Price: € 90 (From February 21 to June 8h, 2022) per brand per award category

    Note: For any additional product the cost is € 60  for any of the five (5) categories of the Awards.

    Any amendments to the registration deadlines will be informed to clients via email.

      • Registering to the competition via the Online Registration System ORS form the payment must be made at the same time as filling the online application via a secure online payment system. 
      • Making the registration via the fillable application form, the payment must be made within five (5) working days after the submission of the application. If the payment has not been made in the set time limit the product will automatically be excluded from the judging list.
  • The results will be published on the medtasteawards.com and will also be shared to affiliate media partners.

      • The cost for the Mediterranean Taste Awards stickers is €29 per 1000 stickers and will be available for purchase on March 2022.  The stickers will have an effect for two (2) years and will be strictly for the product which has received the award. After the end of that period, the producer should re-apply and compete in Mediterranean  Taste Awards competition in order to maintain its status. The producers of the awarded brands can request and receive the stickers at any time during the two (2) years period.
      • For the winners who are interested to purchase our trophy and stickers, information for the order will be available on March 1, 2022.

Any Food & Beverage is qualified to participate in this session.

#2 Excellent Taste Organic Awards

Only Food & Beverage from organic farming are qualified to participate in this session.

#3 Innovation Awards

For the Innovation food & beverage Awards, we examine the final product according to the five (5) general consumer expectations: Pleasure, health, convenience, physical, and ethics.

Also, drivers of innovation can be divided into 5 trends.

Pleasure:  Sophistication, Fun, Variety of senses, pleasure, Exoticism

Health: Vegetal, Natural, Medical

Physical: Energy well-being, Slimness

Ethics: Solidarity, Ecology

Convenience: Time-saving, Easy to handle, Nomadism

#4 Packaging & Design Awards

In an economy driven by consumers, the traditional viewpoint of packaging is not effective either for the consumer or the business. Instead of focusing heavily on production only, effective packaging should be considered from the following three viewpoints:

1.Viability, i.e. maintainable and enabling brand development
2.Feasibility, i.e. practical and realizable
3.Desirability, i.e. enticing to consumers.

For the Design & Packaging Olive Oil Awards we examine the following :

Brand Identification, Shelf impact, Messaging Communication, Aestheric Appeal, Graphic Elements, Placement, Logo, Legibility, Readability, Brand Perception, Product Perception, Confusions, Misidentifications, Impact of Color, Flow of Innovation, Comprehension, Brand Recall

The public vote counts 30% of the overall score of the Design & Packaging Award. 70% of the overall score is becoming from the Panel Leaders of the Packaging & Design Competition.
